Photo size

Measured from the crown to the tip of the chin, ignoring hair and beard, the head must be 32–36 mm (445–500 px). Leave 4–6 mm above the head and 7–9 mm below the chin, with the centre of the face within 1.5 mm of the centre line.
Background
Plain light grey
The best background colour is a light grey. It must be a single, even, light and neutral colour with no shadows, and your face, hair and clothing must all stand out clearly against it.
Face position
Head straight, facing the camera
Your head must be straight — not tilted to the side, forward or back — with your face and gaze pointed directly at the camera and your shoulders square to it. A scarf or other headwear is allowed only for religious reasons, established custom or health reasons, and must not shadow your face.
Lighting
Even, shadow-free
Lighting must be even across the whole face, with no shadows on your face or the background, no burnt-out highlights and no red-eye. Glasses may be worn provided the frames are nowhere near your eyes and there are no reflections — you can always take them off for the photo.
Photo age
Within 6 months
The photo may be no more than six months old. It must not be retouched in any way that changes even small details of your appearance.

The photo must be sharp across the whole face, from ears to nose tip, with no compression artefacts, graininess, colour casts or wide-angle distortion. Digital enhancement is not permitted.
