The photo must be square. Your head must measure between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (22–35 mm) from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head — between 50% and 69% of the image height.
Background
Plain white or off-white
The photo must be taken in front of a plain white or off-white background, with nothing else in the frame.
Face position
Full face, directly at the camera
A full-face view directly facing the camera, with a neutral expression and both eyes open. Wear clothing you normally wear day to day — uniforms are not accepted. Head coverings are allowed for religious purposes only, and your full face must stay visible.
Lighting
Even, shadow-free
Your face must be evenly lit with no shadows. Glasses are not accepted — eyeglasses have not been allowed in US visa photos since 1 November 2016.

The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months and must reflect your current appearance.
